Role Description

We at GSTN have begun the journey to put together the most comprehensive analytics system for Indirect tax analysis in India. We want to strengthen this team with the addition of a Knowledge expert on Indirect Taxation and Financial crime analysis. This person will play a central role in generation & validation of new Ideas, preparing concept notes and approach documents. He will support the Data Engineers and Data Scientists in achieving the goals by ensuring they are analyzing the right data in the most appropriate manner. He will supply them with the interpretation of many complex laws and statutes and translate them into data problems

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the SPOC for all GST & Indirect tax related queries within the analytics team
  • Act as the funnel for validation and shaping of new ideas
  • Research, investigate, interview experts to come up with Tax avoidance strategies which are being propagated through the network
  • Advise Analytics team on the data analysis that can break these strategies and help detect the fraud proactively
  • Work with the data team to guide them on development of key insights which can help Tax officials in variety of use cases ¢ ranging from tax payer behavior analysis to GST policy formulation
  • Work with Tax officials to understand their requirements for analytics, reports and dashboards
  • Create concept note, Business Requirements Document and other documentation as needed by the team/vendor
  • Participate in vendor meetings and clarify doubts related to data, methodology & its implementation.
  • Evaluate/Validate the output of analysis produced by the team/vendor before it is released to the stakeholder
  • Perform RCA on data & analysis issues that are identified by internal/external users
  • Work closely with the Services team (team of SMEs who are senior Tax officers working on deputation at GSTN) to improve the uptake of reports, dashboards and other analytical outputs produced by the team by participating in the webinars, seminars, training sessions and open house sessions with end users
  • Keep track of changes in the law and procedures and help the team in propagating the same with previously deployed use-cases. Help in shaping up new ideas related to these changes
  • Network with the Tax consultants, experts and officials to keep abreast of latest trends, findings and happenings

Key Attributes & Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

Experience of 10+ years as an Indirect Tax Consultant or Financial Auditor with focus on Indirect Tax fraud detection. Min Graduate, preferable a CA.

Core Skills:

Expert in Indirect Tax ¢ esp GST

Knowledge of GST Tax compliance & key parameters

Knowledge of Financial frauds within the Indirect tax system

Ability to handle numbers and detect patterns

Ability to work with young data engineers & data scientists ¢ convert business problem into data problems

Ability to work with and extract meaningful information from Tax officers within regards to Tax fraud strategies and methods
