Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is the premier R&D organization of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for carrying out R&D in IT, Electronics and associated areas. C-DAC has today emerged as a premier R&D organization in IT&E (Information Technologies and Electronics) in the country working on strengthening national technological capabilities in the context of global developments in the field and responding to change in the market need in selected foundation areas.
As an institution for high-end Research and Development (R&D), C-DAC has been at the forefront of the Information Technology (IT) revolution, constantly building capacities in emerging/enabling technologies and innovating and leveraging its expertise, calibre, skill sets to develop and deploy IT products and solutions for different sectors of the economy.
C-DAC has developed and supplied a range of high performance parallel computers, known as the PARAM series of supercomputers. C-DAC’s development activities in this area have been mission oriented and driven by its mission objectives, both in technology and application developments.
C-DAC, as a result of its pioneering developments, evolved the Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technology (GIST), with a view to extend the benefits of Information Technology to the vast and diversified multilingual population of India.
For over a decade, C-DAC is engaged in the implementation of projects on a Turnkey basis in the application areas of Defence, E-Governance, Urban Planning, Utility Management, Land Management, Environment, Health, Disaster Management, Agriculture, Watershed Development, Forestry, Biodiversity and Geosciences. Also offers services in the fields of remote sensing data interpretation, GIS analysis and modeling, MIS-GIS integration, web GIS application development, customization of GIS software, etc.
As part of its development activities C-DAC has been awarded a number of sponsored R&D projects, by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Ministry of Defense, Department of Official Language (DOL), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Department of Culture, Department of Biotechnology and others.
As India’s national initiative for the design, development and delivery of indigenous high performance computers, its activities are spread in other areas such as multilingual, multimedia technologies, advanced computing solutions, networking and training.
C-DAC has attained a vantage position in the area of ICTE through its applied pioneering research in the last three decades in diverse domains in ever-changing global landscape. Some other tenacious endeavors translated into high impact initiatives are: National Supercomputing Mission, Centre for Excellence in Cyber Forensics, roll out of health information solutions, MANTRA Rajbhasha, National Virtual Library of India, etc.
